Manor excerpt
By Janice Organ
So, how
many of you have ridden the bus from Shell Lake to Spooner?
I can answer that I have! You all have got to try it! It is
definitely worth the $1 they charge you! Tresa, the driver,
took us to Spooner for any special errands anyone had around
town, you know in the case we needed to go to the hardware
store, Dairy Queen (who me?), or to stop into the senior center.
I’ve got a copy of her schedule, as does most elderly
housing complexes and the senior centers on the Hwy. 63 Corridor
as they call it, but if you need one, give me a call, and
I’ll make sure you get it, too. It is fabulous to have
a service like this in our area. She will drive you to downtown
Shell Lake to the bank, the café for pie, or to Lakeside
Market for your groceries. She’ll even help you load
your bags onto the bus. She is definitely a good example of
what great customer service would look like if it were a person.
This service runs five days a week, and it goes back and forth
to Spooner and around our town a couple of times a day, so
in case the early run doesn’t fit into your schedule,
the early afternoon one just might. Give it a whirl. It’s
for anyone, no age limit! No, really!
There
was a butterfly presentation down at the pavilion last Wednesday
evening. Nikki Nelson from Hunt Hill Audubon was over by invitation
of Happy Tonics and our own Mary Ellen Ryall to teach us greenhorns
about wild butterflies. It was a nice presentation that was
full of information that I must have forgotten from my elementary
years. There was a good showing from our community in attendance
that evening. Nikki even invited the children to do a craft
with straws. Of course, I attempted the craft also, but I
didn’t excel as well as the shorter participants in
my line. I’m thinking they cheated! I can say that because
I don’t think any of them read my article.
This was
the third topic and presentation of the Morph Your Mind Environmental
Education Series presented by the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary.
This is an amazing opportunity for all of us to receive free,
educational and pertinent information regarding a range of
current environmental topics affecting our area. There is
a poster of the upcoming educational topics displayed in the
window of the soon to be thriving Happy Tonics office on Main
Street with great thanks going to Charles Lutz. Check it out
if you are interested and see if there isn’t a Wednesday
evening topic that you are interested in hearing and learning
about.
