Ryall, M.E. (2008 June 11). Butterfly corner. Washburn County Register, p. 17.

Butterfly corner
by Mary Ellen Ryall

Things are starting to come to life at the Monarch Butterfly Habitat. Hard structure is starting to define the space. Area one, of the habitat, is located next to the coal building owned by Kyle Schaffer. It was once randomly used for non-designated parking. Now the city owned land is being transformed into a Native Plant and Butterfly Garden.

Dan and Lynn Hubin were hard at work this weekend digging corner fence posts and putting in the first fence link. Link by link, the cedar split rail fence is being built. Lynn Hubin is actively recruiting fence donations from businesses, organizations, and individuals. Think of it, what was once a city mow area with a large carbon footprint is now being beautified into a sustainable remnant prairie and a Sanctuary for the Monarch Butterfly.

Happy Tonics, Inc., is an nonprofit 501(C ) 3 environmental and educational organization under the umbrella of the Shell Lake Chamber of Commerce. All donations to the Monarch Butterfly Habitat are tax deductible.

Please contact Lynn Hubin at (715) 468-2528 or email lhubin@aol.com to donate and help build the split rail fence that defines ½ acre of Monarch Butterfly Habitat.
