Lakeland
Manor excerpt
There
was a super turnout at the Earth Day and Butterfly habitat
Ceremony on Saturday morning. Mary Ellen Ryall and Happy Tonics
have been organizing this ceremony for months with the help
of many volunteers and other conservation or concerned groups
without our state and area. You would all be proud of the
way many of these people have found a way in Shell Lake to
help support this project. I know on Saturday, we had representatives
from Minnesota and Wisconsin Lake Pines Girl Scouts, the Shell
Lake Chamber of Commerce, FFA, Happy Tonics, Washburn County
Land an Water Conservation, Experience Works, the Shell Lake
Senior Center, WOJB, LCO Tribal members, LCO College, and
a various other citizens happy to be involved in a bit of
history in the making. Good for all of you! It was cold, and
we all braved the weather, even whined a little, but the contentment
from having done a good deed and the refreshments afterwards
at the Lakeview Hotel sure made all of the efforts worth it.
The shrubs did not get planted…why? Because it was cold!
They had begun leafing out and to set them out there in the
dirt would have been cruel, so they have been saved for another
day. It shall be beautiful when it gets going, so just keep
an eye on the habitat when you drive by it. You’ll know
as much as I report if you do. |
