Wildlife and Garden Club
By Janice Organ

The Wildlife and Garden Club is getting ready to take on another season. Mary Ellen Ryall has been keeping me informed as to Happy Tonics support of this club and it’s mission to help promote seniors getting active in gardening and supporting local organic agriculture and food supply. Don’t scoff at the term organic either! You will be surprised as to what we are all eating when we eat vegetables from other parts of the world. It’s just a nice feeling to know that we are trying to do our bodies justice by feeding it the best, most nutritious and less polluted food we can. Most of these criterias can be found right in our own local farms produce. The many people who contribute and donate to Lakeland Manor through the summer months help our residents to eat a healthier variety of foods, thereby keeping them healthy. So, Mary Ellen asked that I pass on that membership is free to join the Wildlife and Garden Club and very open to seniors. The tentative schedule is the club shall meet on the third Tuesday of each month from April through September at 10 a.m., right here at the manor. Try to join Mary Ellen for monthly workshops, discussions, butterfly and garden films, and gardening projects. If you would like to, give Mary Ellen a call at 468-2097 to sign up for this wonderful senior activity. At the moment, she is planning an April 15 Spring Garden Wake-Up Call. This will include a look at kitchen garden and flower plant selections. She also anticipates a shopping trip to a local organically grown spring planting sale. What more could we ask for.” Let the spring begin.
