UFO Club News at Shell Lake Public Library

By Mary Ellen Ryall

SHELL LAKE - On Sept. 8, several people met at the Shell Lake Public Library with unfinished objects. Attendees either wanted help with an ongoing project or wanted to complete a project in the good company of others.

Kimberly VanMoorlehem, 12 years old, from Hayward and Brigette Hungerbuhler, visiting Shell Lake from Switzerland, came to assist Happy Tonics. They packaged common milkweed seed for the nonprofit organization's online eBay store. People around the country are requesting milkweed seed in order to help the monarch butterfly. So far, Happy Tonics has distributed multirequests in 23 states.

Melissa Haines worked alone creating a cross-stitch. The artwork is called "The Keeper of the Lighthouse." Such intricate stitches were undertaken, and many enjoyed her work in progress. Paige Skluzacek, librarian, is the genius behind the UFO Club. She is felting and making intricate bags with faces of goblins and ghosts for Halloween. Mary Ellen Ryall told Happy Tonics helpers that Skluzacek was making her a small butterfly bag. Skluzacek is now going to make butterfly bags for the helpers who came last Saturday.

If you want to learn more about the UFO Club, call Skluzacek at 468-2074. You are always welcome to bring a project or assist in the efforts, be it butterflies or goblins.
