Shell Lake Public Library to host Happy Tonics event

By Mary Ellen Ryall

SHELL LAKE - The Shell Lake Public Library will host a Happy tonics Event, Monday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m. Valerie J. Downes and her husband, Joseph J. Lusco, of Sun City, Ariz., will present an informal CD photo presentation of their trip to the Mexican Monarch Butterfly Habitat in the winter of 2007. Happy Tonics' members and the Bennett Garden Club will attend the event. After the library program, attendees plan to walk to the future native wildflower and butterfly gardens located at the northern entrance to Shell Lake. Tony DePerry, an Ojibwa traditional teacher, is scheduled to offer a blessing for the future Monarch Butterfly Habitat. Weather permitting, members and guests plan to enjoy an evening outside and attend a picnic. Local food vendors will provide the food. While enjoying views of Shell Lake, the attendees plan to stay for the Monday night Shell Lake Pavilion Music Program and a play "Ghost Visit 2007" being sponsored by the Washburn County Historical Society.
