Common Milkweed Seed Distribution
Common
milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) seed is being distributed
through our webstore at http://happytonics.org/store/
.
We
are also distributing seed to members of the Flower and Herb
Exchange a branch of the Seed Savers Exchange.
Seniors
in Minong, WI are letting milkweed grow in their gardens and
at the senior center, and some of our local cattle ranches
are letting milkweed grow in their fields.
This
winter milkweed seed has been distributed to VA, WI, TX, and
FL. Little by little the monarch is finding pockets of refuge
with fellow gardeners who are helping to provide habitat for
the monarch butterfly.
Planting
Common Milkweed invites the monarch into the home landscape.
Milkweed is the only host plant of the butterfly. The adult
monarch leaves eggs on the host plant (Milkweed) and the next
generation is born. The Monarch caterpillar (larva) only eats
milkweed leaves, and adult Monarchs also nectar on the plant. |
